David Hearst, the editor-in-chief of Middle East Eye, addresses the ongoing Israeli offensive on northern Gaza, which has persisted for three weeks, describing how it is qualitatively different from any horror inflicted on Gaza in recent years. This offensive has occurred without any condemnation from Western leaders or international pressure on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to halt the attacks.

Hearst draws parallels between the events unfolding in northern Gaza and the Srebrenica genocide of 1995. He notes that, as in Potocari, men and boys were separated from women, taken to Bratunac, and shot dead by Bosnian Serb soldiers. In northern Gaza, men are being separated from women and led away to an unknown fate, with some never seen again.

Hearst adds that Benjamin Netanyahu is carrying on his plans for northern Gaza because he knows that Biden is a week away from a presidential election and has run out of political capital to stop him.
